WhatsApp is going to share data of its users with Facebook

Not so long ago, we praised WhatsApp in our corporate blog for the implementation of the full-featured E2E encryption and Signal protocol in the messenger. This security solution has left many competitors behind this very popular messenger far behind. However, this time it will be a question of its new function, which will certainly not be perceived positively by users. In their new blog post, the authors of the messenger indicate that now some of the user data, for example, his phone number will be known to Facebook. That is why the company updated its confidentiality agreement.

The data that Facebook will receive from WhatsApp will be used to show it more personalized ads. However, whatsapp’s transmitted information will not be visible to other Facebook users.

No information that you share on WhatsApp, including your messages, photos, information about your account, will not be posted on Facebook or any other company from the Facebook group of companies so that others can see it. This means that, for example, although some information will be transmitted to Facebook (phone number), this information will not be visible to other people on Facebook. In addition, when you and your contacts use the latest version of our application, your messages are protected by end-to-end encryption. When your messages are protected by end-to-end encryption, only people with whom you exchange messages can read them - not WhatsApp, nor Facebook, nobody else.
