Who is to blame and what to do if an IT person is bored at work. Poll results

Recently, we conducted a survey among IT specialists to find out if they are bored at work and why this is happening. As we thought, most specialists do not know from time to time what to do, and at the same time think about how to avoid it. Many are ready to stay at their current place of work, more than 80% do not want to become heads, but want to develop professionally. Of these, almost 10% see themselves in the field of Big Data and Data Science.

We identified four of the most representative groups: programmers (47%), admins (25.8%), product programmers (those who chose two options: “I develop products” and “I write my code” - 17.4%) and managers (9.7%).

Who misses more? More often than others, programmers are bored, only 14% answered that they won’t get bored at work. Managers are least of all bored - more than a quarter of the representatives of this group always know what to do.

Middle managers miss more. Only 9.5% of heads of divisions answered that they would not get bored, among big managers there are as many as 50%.

Experienced IT professionals miss less. All the time bored more among people with experience of 1-3 years. “We don’t get bored,” experts with more than 6 years experience say more often.

The most popular causes of boredom. To the question “Why are you bored?” Half of the respondents (48.7%) replied that they have a lot of monotonous work, 25% of IT people have to perform too easy and trivial tasks.

What helps to get bored less at work? Technologically savvy colleagues (21.8%), funny sites (15.4%) and a favorite boss (12.2%) save the monotonous work.

A quarter of IT people think about changing jobs. 25.7% answered that they remain at their work only because they have not yet found another.

Most IT professionals want to develop professionally. 67% of respondents said that they want to become a steeper specialist in their field. 8% believe that it is worth developing in the direction of Big Data and Data Science. At the same time, programmers are most interested in moving into this area - 38.5% among all those who noted this answer.
