United Russia plans to open its faculty at Moscow State University

The United Russia party plans to open a political science department at Moscow State University (MGU), in which Boris Gryzlov, chairman of the high council of the party in power, will occupy one of the leading positions, the Kommersant newspaper wrote on Monday. The question of creating such a faculty will be considered at a meeting of the academic council of Moscow State University, scheduled for August 29.
As the newspaper clarifies, the faculty is not created from scratch, but will be formed as a result of the division of the existing faculty of philosophy into the faculty of philosophy and the School of Political Science, which will be engaged in training personnel for the Russian political system.

The rector of Moscow State University, Viktor Sadovnichy, confirmed this information, saying that such schools have long existed in many prestigious educational institutions in the world. He also noted that at the moment the country is in dire need of qualified management personnel, and such a faculty will be able to provide them.

At the same time, however, Sadovnichy does not consider the United Russia party’s initiative political. When asked what he thinks about the possible proposal to appoint Boris Gryzlov as one of the heads of the faculty, Viktor Sadovnichy preferred to evade a direct answer, saying only that if he received such a proposal, he would definitely consider it. In turn, according to the current dean of the Faculty of Philosophy Vladimir Mironov, Gryzlov is likely to be headed by the governing council of the new faculty, which will be created in a supervisory or guardian format, while the current head of the state policy Andrei Shutov will deal with organizational issues.

In turn, one of the ideologists of United Russia, Valery Fadeyev, proposed Gryzlov to apply for the presidency of Moscow State University, since, in his opinion, the post of head of the faculty Boris Gryzlov was “not in order”.

According to political analysts, the formation of such a faculty by the ruling party is focused mostly not on studying political processes in the country, but on creating a cadre party school using the example of refresher courses at the Komsomol and the CPSU that operated during the Soviet era.
