Esquire: the rules of life from Bill Gates

I'm not arrogant. Just the opposite. I'm disappointed. I am humble. I'm polite.

Suppose you would add me two years of life, with the condition that I would go to business school. I do not think that I could do something better. Look at these shelves around: do you see business books here? That's it.

Spending money is reasonably as difficult as earning it. In the future I plan to do a meaningful distribution of money, if, of course, I still have something to distribute.

I brush my hair every time before sending an e-mail, because I hope to look attractive.

I must say that I feel sorry for the President of the United States. My name often stands in the copy of letters that are sent to him. I think he is more difficult to deal with his mail than me.

I recently went to a restaurant. A man came up to me and began to ask me for money. I'm confused. Then he asked me to go to his page on the Internet. I don’t know if it was true or not, but I liked this alternative request so much that I gave the guy five bucks. Maybe it was a bum with its own page on the Internet.

In a few years, computers will have personality and probably idiosyncrasy. They will understand speech commands. They may even express sympathy when we are upset. But this does not mean that they will start thinking ... for now.

If the letter has the word "increase" - probably spam.

I do not like conferences in all sorts of exotic places. It seems that the nicer the place, the less work is done.

When I was young, I wanted to be the best chess player in the world. I also wanted to be the best go player in the world. I wanted the partnership between IBM and Microsoft to remain to the general advantage, but even here it did not work out. There are people I wanted to hire, but could not. In general, I have had enough disappointments in my life.

Sometimes I envy those who program. After I stopped programming for Microsoft, I myself often half-jokingly said at meetings: “Maybe I'll stop at the weekend, I'll write this program myself.” Now I do not say that, but I constantly think about it.
