Recently I heard a rumor that "dull poppies" © - some psychos are buying solely because of the legendary text editor, TextMate. Curiosity took over, and I really wanted to see what kind of a beast it was. Moreover, my dearly beloved WinSyntax stubbornly did not want to learn the UnIndent team (which is not surprising, considering that it has not been updated since 2002). And so, as the saying goes, “the fruit has ripened,” and I decided to spend the day searching for a new, brilliant and, I’m not afraid of this word, web two editor for my wonderful scripts. Immediately it is worth making a reservation, the task of installing a monster like Zend Eclipse, etc. - not standing. I work alone, the scripts are simple, and in general I like small, handy programs from the “Nothing more” series.

In search of an analogue of TextMate, I came across reviews of two of its clones under Windows:

I began to study, of course, with InType (because it is free).

The latest stable version , dated 2007, to be honest, pleased with a nice glossy interface, convenience and speed of work, but ... Frankly, I expected more.
In a nutshell, everything is great, but not enough to buy a Mac for this.
In the unstable releases, there was literally a diamond! It has already appeared very comfortable projects, formed by simple Drag-and-drop.
But my happiness did not last long ... As it turned out, with all the beauty, InType does not know how to do some rather trivial things ... For example, to remember the file encoding. Not that it does not know how, but UTF-8 Plain does not remember. More precisely, if you insert a character in Russian in the first 32 kilobytes of code, it will remember. And yes, this is not a bug in the opinion of the developer, so if he had reset the UTF-8 encoding ...
To be honest, I was almost going to accept it, and I didn’t inspire a small comment with a Russian letter at the beginning of each script, since the e-texteditor review didn’t inspire me to install it ... texteditor.

But man is not alive with snippets alone.
These are projects (no, you will not find monstrous customization wizards "Enter the project name, step one of eighteen") and toodoo sheets directly in the code. Ftp support. Multi-editing. Previews, regulars, etc. And for everything, attention, for everything there are hot keys .
Honestly, I have been working with this editor all day and have not yet figured out many of the SMART functions, but I can’t imagine how I managed without him all these years.
And yes, it seems I will buy it!
