Design + 400 MHz + CDMA 1xEV-DO = You'll love it!

While there are annoying disputes about 3G, EDGE, HSDPA on fruit and berry devices,
I would like to draw your attention to a very successful model of a CDMA communicator
HTC Touch Vogue (PPC6900) .

This device is quite suitable for our CDMA (1xRTT and 1xEV-DO) networks.

Small, convenient, powerful enough, communicator controlled practically without stylus,
with a fast internet channel and modern software system.
')

A special bonus, the ability to simultaneously have a voice channel and an EV-DO data channel from different operators.

HTC Touch Vogue (PPC6900)

This is not a review, I just want to express my impressions, to show an alternative , you know what.

The best alternative, especially for those who know how to "modify the file" to a mirror shine, for those who want more in less.

Let's start with the fact that the communicator was announced relatively long ago, in November 2007.
However, look at the parameters:

Cellular Networks:CDMA800, CDMA1900
Cellular Data Links:cdmaOne, CDMA2000 1xRTT, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rel.0, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev A

More about the device

This device can work in most of our local CDMA
networks (except CDMA450 of course). By the way, the reception quality is more than enough.

The device has 2 switchable phone profiles. Stitched. You can put on them 2 different operators and switch as needed.

However, due to the fact that the voice in CDMA goes to 1x, it is possible by a “tricky” prl-a and a small tweak of the system
configure voice from one operator, and data (EV-DO) from another, and on one, mainly, profile.
So you can keep, for example, running ICQ or softphone and call-talk as needed.

For me, this combination is convenient to have a data channel connection.
through a relatively inexpensive but high-speed EV-DO channel from People.net.ua,
a voice channel (with a direct number and minimum telecom rating),
from an older CDMA operator, but not an EV-DO, but with wild data transfer rates.

Iron

The battery , subjectively holds about 3 days, with not too intensive use.
Once, in the train, I loaded it with GPS, then a movie (almost 2 hours, 320x240),
then music and screen reading. About 4 hours and 20 minutes before the “Low Power” signal. He turned off the music, read for another half an hour.

The speed of the communicator is much faster than the 200MHz HTC Touch. Which is not surprising.
It feels like the speed of the interface is very similar to the HTC 4550 (Kaiser), when compared with something known.

Internet speed depends on coverage and operator. In my case, real 1-1.5 megabits
were quite mundane. And ssh can work quite comfortably, the delays are incomparable with the connection via EDGE.

GPS , it is in the communicator and works quite well in modern firmware,
but sensitivity is rather weak and time of cold start is great (speak till 20 minutes)

The camera is not bad for this type of device. 2Mpx, and the built-in software in the Touch style is quite pleasing.

Memory , its a lot. After installing and setting me
there was just over 60 MB of free RAM and more than 120 MB of space in the internal storage. All software, except for cards, put there.
And another 8 GB on a flash drive;) (microSD card format SDHC - supported)

Management, convenience of work , now there are quite a few touchscreen communicators,
but not everyone can control the fingers. This can be.
In addition, the communicator is very "well" in hand.

That's what makes this device so convenient and prevents it from letting go:
special, rubber-like surface of a high-quality body
Convenience of touching the screen, even with the same hand in which you hold
screen sensitivity is just in measure
the screen is not sunk relative to the communicator surface
Good weight and size, it can be carried in a shirt pocket, but it does not seem small.

Software Interface

Pleases Windows Mobile 6.1 and proprietary software like Touch Flo.
However, this is an amateur, personally, I practically do not use this shell. In addition to it, there are many other software under the control of the fingers.

Many people like the native Touch Flo, including the " tweeky ", of which there are many in the appropriate forums .
However, I preferred to do it differently, a little in my own way, but thanks to SpbSoftware.

My Today screen (this is still the phone first):

Spb time
Spb phone suite
BatteryStatus
PocketMusic Player
GPSToggle (not recorded source)
and Loker-Unlock screen

Virtual keyboard

I pinched ZoomBoard - it is convenient to type without a stylus
Similar product PocketCM Keyboard (free)

Many more appreciate Resco Keyboard

Contact manager

There is a sea of software ... Including iphone-like ones. I will not write, reviews of the sea.

I will note PocketCM Contact (free)
and VITO FunContact

But I use my own contacts (so I kept EN firmware for myself) with a patch
" Search in English and Russian letters on the SmartDial keyboard "

The rest of the installed software is not worth describing. It is the same as on most Windows Mobile communicators.

Where and how much

Prices seen from $ 250 to $ 380 (from ebay to hometown)

Communicator can be purchased at http://www.ebay.com/ ,
but the firmware procedure is rather nontrivial
and problematic for a layman. In addition, there are service centers for CDMA operators.
Many of them do not even mind making 2 numbers or a data channel from another operator.
on the 1st profile, if they know how;)

However, the device is quite possible to purchase additional accessories.

Screen Protectors
Additional battery (I found at 1300mAh against 1100 relatives)
Desktop cradle with charging for additional batteries
Various headphone adapters , with or without a microphone
Covers and bags (but this, IMHO, is superfluous)

My conclusion

I have been using a beautiful, stable, convenient system for 3 months now. Very satisfied.
And I am especially pleased with the possibilities to adjust and change everything the way I want.

Not a single GSM, and certainly not only happiness in apples ...
