Summer update on Habré: “Administration”, voice weight and much more

1. The flow of "Administration"

A shot from the TV series "Silicon Valley"

In mid-May, we announced a new approach to categorizing Habra materials into thematic streams. The initial idea of introducing streams was to separate technical (or infrastructure) and non-technical content - as a result, everything related to technology was defined in the “Development” stream.

After receiving the first reviews and suggestions, we heard an opinion on the allocation of the flow of “Administration” - and performed, because this topic really deserves a separate and full stream.

It is worth noting that in connection with this restructuring, user input to flows was recalculated accordingly.

33 hub, which entered the stream "Administration":
  • System administration
  • Network technologies
  • IT infrastructure
  • Server administration
  • Wireless technology
  • * nix
  • Linux setup
  • Virtualization
  • Data storage
  • Database Administration
  • Powershell
  • Data warehouses
  • Antivirus protection
  • Server optimization
  • Standards are sacred
  • Nginx
  • Cloud computing
  • Cisco
  • Backup
  • DNS
  • Decentralized network
  • Domain Name Administration
  • Hosting
  • Data recovery
  • Spam and antispam
  • Devops
  • SAN
  • Data compression
  • Feedonet
  • Apache
  • IPv6
  • IPTV
  • Shells

2. Weight of votes from owners of badges

Until today, badges, with the exception of participation in PPA , did not give their owners any tangible benefits, in addition to cosmetic.

However, to get them is not easy, which means that their owners have pretty tried. It is reasonable to give such users the privilege, because they understand what topic is in demand, and can distinguish a good publication from a bad one.

We decided to correct this situation and increased the weight of the vote for the publication of users with icons. This innovation will help quality notes quickly gain a good rating and get to the top.

So, today the owners of the following 4 icons are given super power:

- “Author”, “Star” and “Old-Timer” - instead of the 1st plus, 2 (2 248 users) are added at once;
- “Legend” - adds 3 pluses to the publication rating (58 users).

The increased weight of the vote applies only to voting for publications and does not affect karma and comments. Voting in the minus remains unchanged, with minus one point of rating is subtracted.

3. Publication statistics

This feature is dictated by the course we have chosen to improve the environment for authors who invest their time and energy in writing articles for a resource.

Full-fledged and “Read & Comment” users will be able to find in the “Publications” tab submenu a new item - “Statistics”.

It is always interesting to look at the effectiveness of the publication, how much return you get in return for the effort and time invested - how much the publication has collected views, what is its rating, how many comments. If earlier this could be done only in the ribbon of own publications in a small info panel under the text before kat, now this statistics is available on a separate page in the table with the list of publications.

Also on the page is a graph with the number of views of all publications (including unpublished drafts). For the schedule data is available for the last year.

Views of all publications

At the moment we are limited to opportunities already available to corporate blogs, but the functionality is useful and interesting, so in the future we will develop it.

4. Delete Drafts

Another feature that you have been asking for a long time. The feature is available on the draft edit page. It should be noted that only those drafts that have not previously been published are subject to deletion. This restriction will not allow you to delete all your published posts, having previously translated them into a draft, in case of an account hacking.

All of the above changes, except for streams, are also available on Geektimes.
