The victory of the Russian team at CIPHER 4
HackerDom team from Ural State University ranked first at CIPHER
4 - annual international competitions on CTF, held by Aachen Technical University. This year 32 teams participated in the competition, including five Russian ones.
The game took place on the night of August 1, from 22.00 to 5.00 (GMT + 5) on the Internet. On the game, teams were given an image for a virtual machine with an installed OS and gaming services that contained various kinds of vulnerabilities: weak passwords, configuration error, buffer overflow, SQL and PHP injections, XSS, insufficient filtering of input parameters with further execution of arbitrary commands, etc. Game also included a task in which it was required to reveal information hidden with the help of steganography. Linux Ubuntu was used as the OS, and the services were written in various programming languages: Python, PHP, Perl, Haskel, C.
