The base of free Github repositories is available through the interface BigQuery

2.8 million repositories, 3 TB of source code and metadata

Google, in collaboration with Github, laid out for public use the full up-to-date database of all open-source repositories via the BigQuery interface. ( Free license check is done via API.)

Google's BigQuery Public Datasets datasets contain information on over 2.8 million free repositories, over 2 billion files (the latest source code for 163 million files), 145 million commits, etc. The total size of the database is about 3 terabytes.
')
Previously, Github archives were laid out on the Github Archive . Now all this wealth is available for full-text search and analysis through simple SQL queries. Github promises to update the datasets weekly.

BigQuery is a cloud-based service for interactively analyzing large data sets. The model for using BigQuery is quite simple: data transfer is implemented using standard API calls. This eliminates the need for pre-caching and allows streaming data processing in real time.

In other words, now using a simple SQL query, you can get any statistics on Github repositories. How are repositories the most popular of all time? For the last year? For the last week? For example, here is the result of issuing, upon request, the 1000 most popular repositories for 2015-2016 (the first ten are listed).

Those who want to experiment with requests to the GitHub Data database are advised not to refer to the main table [bigquery-public-data: github_repos.contents] 1.5 TB in size, which contains all non-binary files smaller than 1 MB. She will instantly devour your free monthly limit. Instead, you should refer to the table with the extract of 10% of the files of the most popular repositories [ bigquery-public-data: github_repos.sample_contents ] of only 23 GB or to separate tables for the programming languages .go, .rb. .js, .php, .py and .java [ fh-bigquery: github_extracts.contents_ * ].
