Telecom Italia and Polymer Vision are going to demonstrate at the 3GSM 2007 World Congress, which will be held from February 12 to February 15 in Barcelona, a joint product. This Cellular-Book is a mobile device with an expanding display. It is mainly intended for reading newspapers, books and other similar data. This portable solution is based on the Readius concept developed by Polymer Vision. It is equipped with a 5-inch display, which is able to unfold. The screen displays 16 levels of gray on a light background with high contrast. Display Cellular-Book, according to the manufacturers, provides ease of reading, comparable to a paper book. Screen backlighting is not provided, so read in the dark will not work. But, as manufacturers say, the device works great in bright sunlight. Cellular-Book sizes are slightly smaller than regular cell phone sizes. Data can be transferred to the device via the Telecom Italia network in EDGE / UMTS standards, as well as using Wi-Fi and connecting to mini-USB. According to the manufacturers, the device’s energy consumption is so low that it can operate for 10 days without charging the battery. Information about the price of Cellular-Book has not yet been received. In the future we plan to develop a display capable of displaying color and moving pictures.
