Moscow Exchange became a member of the international blockchain consortium HyperLedger and joined the Linux Foundation project, within which this consortium operates.

Participation in the consortium provides the Moscow Exchange with access to international expertise and advanced developments in the field of blockchain technology. Direct interaction with key developers is an opportunity for the exchange to participate in the formulation and implementation of international industry standards for the use of blockchain technologies.

Sergey Polyakov, Managing Director for Information Technology, Moscow Exchange: “Distributed registry technology is gaining more and more weight in the financial industry. The Moscow Exchange Group is actively exploring the prospects for blockchain solutions in trading, clearing and settlement. The first results of our work are already being applied: The National Settlement Depository is developing a pilot project of the e-proxy voting system for electronic voting of holders of bonds based on this technology. ”

Blockchain is a technology of distributed databases (registries) based on a constantly extended chain of records and resistant to falsification, revision, hacking and theft of information. Initially, the blockchain developed for cryptocurrency markets, then studies of its applicability to other markets and regions acquired the scale of a world trend. Today, almost all infrastructure institutions (exchanges, clearing organizations — central counterparties, depositories, etc.) study this technology, joining efforts in international consortia to develop common approaches and standards.

As part of the international project Linux Foundation, the blockchain-consortium HyperLedger Project was launched in December 2015, the goal of which was to jointly promote blockchain technology by identifying and developing essential aspects for an open standard of distributed registries that can change the way business transactions are conducted globally.

The HyperLedger Project organizes a platform for business and developer communication sessions and contributes to the formation of generally accepted international blockchain standards in the financial industry. The project unites both global global financial market players (CME, Deutsche Boerse, LSE) and large IT companies (IBM, CISCO, Intel).

The HyperLedger project has a Technical Steering Committee, a Marketing Committee and an End User Technical Advisory Board. Representatives of the Moscow Exchange and NSD will be included in all committees and working groups of the blockchain consortium.
