Are classmates monetized? This is just the beginning.

Today I was surprised to find here a post about the introduction of the first paid service on the site Odnoklassniki.ru. However, the surprise was not caused by the post itself, but by its heated discussion. Apparently, this is new to the Russian public. So tell you a little story.

30% of "classmates" belong to the Latvian company Forticom. The same company owns the second largest social network in Latvia, one.lv, on the engine of which classmates are now working. So, van, as he is called here, has long since taught a large part of the Latvian Internet population to pay for all kinds of services, even the most primitive and completely unnecessary.

I will give examples of what can be obtained on one.lv only for money:
')
• viewing photos (in the free version only 1 is shown)
• view those who came to visit you (in the free version only the last 3)
• view those who rated your photos (in the free version only the last 3)
• Evaluation of photos on 10, 20, 30, 50 points.
• your profile background
• removal of ratings
• increase the number of photos (you can download 10 for free)
• bonuses for photos ("number 1", "kiss", "super girl" and a whole lot more)
• the ability to insert html-tags and images into messages
• stealth mode

And that's not all. During major tournaments for money, you can become a fan of your favorite team, you can throw tomatoes at someone else's photos, or you can even order a VIP marasmic mode, which costs $ 4 a week and gives you some meager advantages like “my photo cannot be rated less than on 30 ".

It is easy to conclude that the free version of the site is very trimmed in functionality. Therefore, many people use paid services, because almost all of the advanced Russian-speaking population of Latvia sits on the site. One makes on sms only millions of dollars annually and plans to do the same in Russia. Forticom already tried to enter the Russian market on their own, launched several similar projects, but in the end nothing came of them and they decided to go the other way.

You, however, have a completely different situation. People are not used to paying money for this, and all these functions were initially available for free. So users can perceive innovations with bayonets, especially given the presence of vkontakte. Most likely, the appearance of a paid stealth mode is just a check, a preparatory stage. If it does, new paid services will appear, and then competitors can adopt a successful business model. In any case, we have adopted.

And then the visitors of social networks will have 3 options - to pay, use the reduced version solely for the sake of communication, or simply to leave.
