IBM released a program to combat memory loss

Researchers from IBM have long been working on creating a convenient program that would help record, organize, and quickly recover all information that passes through the brain. And with the spread of mobile phones, they had a brilliant idea to use this device to record surrounding facts, because it is always at hand.

The owner of the mobile phone only needs to point the camera at the object and press the button. The program will do the rest automatically. Theoretically, it should sort the information of various types, recognize and index the text in photos, record also all telephone conversations (this is a mobile phone), and at the same time all other conversations, recognize and index them too, etc. In practice, most of the above tasks are performed on a regular PC after synchronization with a mobile phone, which merges all the footage there. Some tasks (sound recognition) are not normally implemented at all.

Now reported the release of an alpha version of this conceptual program. The developers called it Pensieve, after the name of the memory bank described in the Harry Potter books.

There is a demo on YouTube (and under Habrakat). True, it only shows how the program is capable of processing business cards. In fact, it is capable of much more. For example, it saves the GPS coordinates of each fixed object, it can save audio recordings, recognize events by the photographed billboards, link individual photos by meaning, etc.

In general, neurological diseases, including various forms of memory impairment, can very soon become occupational diseases of IT professionals. If the brain is constantly working in multitasking mode, then it is the areas responsible for short-term memory that are experiencing the greatest load. Of course, long-term memory also suffers. Some have difficulty remembering names, dates, phones, etc. begin already in youth. Many "IT people" problems will begin closer to retirement. Anyway, however, a new IBM development can help us all.

At first, the “personal assistant” Pensieve is positioned to help retirees who suffer from partial memory loss. But it has long been known that programs of this type (about “personal assistants” Bill Gates spoke in his book “The Road to the Future” more than ten years ago) are the Grail for software companies. It is assumed that in the future each person will have a pocket “electronic assistant” with approximately this functionality.
