Liar and truthful

I propose a problem that my class in the seventh guessing uncle. Then I did not guess it, he said the answer, and already in the adult form I was told another solution. So.

Once upon a time, in a far-away galak of the distant ... the country was such a custom. If during the trial of the alleged perpetrator the court was unable to establish whether he was guilty of a serious crime or not, the case should have decided his fate. But throwing a coin is a moveton, so the case was the following. The defendant was led into a room from which there were only two exits: the Gate of Paradise and the Gate of Hell. Near each exit stood a man; one of them was telling the truth all the time, the other was lying. Where are the gates, and who is the Liar, and who the Pravdivets is unknown. Only two men and two ways. The defendant could ask one question to any peasant he liked, then leave the room. If he gets lucky and he leaves the Gates of Paradise - he is saved, otherwise death.

The task, I think, is clear - to come up with a question, after receiving an answer to which the defendant will unambiguously determine where to go. A question can be asked any that can be answered "yes" or "no", but only one and only one peasant. I remind you that there are at least two fundamentally different solutions, one, I think, will guess quickly. We write the answers to white, as usual.

UPD: Both solutions are found, who are interested in guessing yourself - do not look in the comments.
