Two weeks after the premiere of the blockbuster "The Dark Knight", which already
came out on top in the list of the most popular films in cinema history, the US Cinematographic Association began a
massive campaign against online pirates .
So far, the copyright guards have not reached the hands of the torrent trackers (apparently, it was left for a snack). The first addressees of the lawsuits were two sites:
MovieRumor.com (monthly American audience: 120 thousand) and
Free Online Movie DataBase (130 thousand). These sites allow you to view pirated movies directly online and get a commercial benefit through the display of advertising. And not only due to contextual advertising: sometimes the show is preceded by full-screen commercials. In this case, the fault is obvious, the trial in court will be very fast. These are the easiest victims, and therefore they were taken first.
On the Internet, “there are a lot of people who open such sites and make money by stealing protected content,” said John Malcolm, director of the global anti-piracy division of MPAA. He clearly hints that the Association is going to step up the fight against piracy on the Web. Over the past year, the MPAA has initiated just seven lawsuits to websites. Some of them ended with the imposition of multi-million dollar fines in favor of copyright holders. This is very little, in fact, for violating the Copyright Act of 1976, hundreds or even thousands of sites can be attracted.
