Spherical display with multi-touch

At the Microsoft Research Faculty event, Microsoft demonstrated its new development - the spherical display of Surface Sphere. This piece, which the Redmondians prudently do not even plan to launch in commercial operation, works on a similar (but somewhat modified) principle with the already well-known Surface product.

The image on the surface of the "display" in Surface Sphere is introduced using the built-in projector and a specially developed computer visualization system. The multi-touch effect is achieved using infrared cameras located around the projector, which track the blocking of the projector’s beam, which is interpreted as contact with the ball's surface. How it works you can look at the video:

Clearly, Microsoft does not make short-term plans to commercialize Surface Sphere. Even Microsoft Surface is much more practical and functional (and cheaper in production, apparently). But since they have done such a thing there, it is no accident.
