How to choose ITshnika in Russia: myth number 7, number 6, number 8
Myth 7: “Programmers work for food - they are all hippies” Common myth. One official told me that what is “now” called a programmer, he called hippies in his youth. In his worldview, these employees are willing to work even for free and adhere to a strange ideology about anarchy. In fact, this is not entirely true. No one will work for free, he needs something to eat. Yes, when there is a well-coordinated team that makes its product - people are ready to do everything for the future, to risk staying at zero. But working in a company - they want to be paid for a job and it cannot be less than that of any other profession. And by lowering the rate, you condemn yourself that students will come to you who agree to work “for food” only to gain experience. Myth 8: “Certificates mean nothing, the main thing is a diploma” And again the myth. In fact, the certificate of software architect from Microsoft means much more than any diploma, even of the most respected university, because it is issued for practical knowledge, and not for successful development of the theory. In my practice I met excellent certified specialists in “1c”, who had the education of a mechanical engineer, but in their field they knew much more than the “Krasnodar diploma” of Moscow University. What to do then? A logical question, because we all need system administrators, programmers and other IT specialists. The answer is obvious - use the same approaches as for other specialties. First, select a clear circle of tasks that the unit of the employee in your company solves. If the tasks are different too (administration of the corporate network and writing sites, for example) - enter additional units. If it is expensive - we give something to outsource. Second, attract an employee of the same industry to the interview, he will ask competent questions and evaluate knowledge. A simple test - I asked to write a functional-style solution to the Haino towers using recursive functions. 80% of applicants were eliminated at this stage. Although the task - for an experienced programmer is trivial. Third, do not save on wages. How would this not like. Loss of increase in terms of work several times higher than the extra five to ten thousand to the monthly wage. And the last thing, do not treat IT people like races from another planet. They are ordinary employees who have only gone deep into a specific industry, so they look strange from the outside. Good luck to everyone in search!
