Hours running on the air

Placed in a crystal bubble and working through temperature changes, the mechanical watch Jaeger Le Coultre's Atmos 561 is the work of Australian super designer Marc Newson (famous for creating the design of Ikepod watches and a million other glamorous things). Newson is said to be a big fan of Atmos, and he began negotiations with the company about cooperation. The result was this watch in honor of the eightieth anniversary of Atmos.

Atmos watches do not need a factory. In order to walk, they receive all the necessary energy from small temperature drops in a sealed working environment and can go for years without human intervention.

The source of their energy is a hermetically sealed capsule containing a mixture of gas and liquid ethyl chloride, which expands in the diffusion chamber when the temperature rises, compressing the clock spring; with a drop in temperature, the gas condenses and the spring is weakened. This movement constantly starts the running spring. Temperature fluctuations of just one degree, ranging from 15 to 30 ° C, are sufficient for the mechanism to operate for two days.
