User
Mugik left an angry comment on my
article yesterday
about setting up an advertising account in VK . They say that I myself am a specialist, since I can only set up an advertising campaign in VK.
I pondered, and decided to make a certain change to the article in order to combine the pleasant with the useful: to reassure the peasant, and at the same time introduce you to the capabilities of the retargeting pixel, using the example of collecting an audience that reads a certain record on Habré.

')
According to the official price list of Habr, the cost of 1000 banner impressions for resource users ranges from 400 to 550 rubles. For geo-targeting in Moscow and Peter will have to pay 20 and 15 percent, respectively. Under the cut, I will share with you the opportunity to set up accurate advertising, both for a wide range of Habr users and readers of certain publications (SO to do VERY bad, and I hope that this will be fixed soon!) At a price of 5-20 rubles per thousand impressions.
Vkontakte, Facebook and a bunch of other guys offer to use pixel retargeting to collect an audience from their sites. How it looks in ideal conditions:
1. Create your landing page, open an advertising account, click on the Retargeting tab.
2. Click "Create a group", specify any name and select the option "install code on the site"
3. We get the retargeting code as in the screenshot below, which needs to be installed in the html markup of the site.

Now every user who goes to our website and has a profile of a social network will get into our retargeting database, which we can use to advertise to hot visitors.
And everything seems to be nice if no one but. If you poke a little over the code, in fact, it can be placed on ANY website or forum where you can attach an image.
If we leave aside from the above code all the unnecessary, leaving only a link to the image (in our case - vk.com/rtrg?r=wWM08jgMshpIIUEzkrv7TMldCHTG8ABb0X95BfXdSc7*QKDwP8UrrLpIZqM*Hxde7vJ5XRoTrUZY0K4OYfvIr/7zW1NH8nUqwPiY9ZQqeTzD3Xqv1okXipTgCeD1By3796ooPAZz*wbR/tj6zF2UuGppj*kJnsBhmLLoEpGxoLc-) and inserting it into a place where you can leave the image link (as, for example, on Habré) - you can achieve phenomenal results.
So, after the comment above the specified username, I added a pixel to the very bottom of the page (already removed, if that). Thus, only people who came under the cat got into the retargeting database.

Technically, now it would be possible to tweak ads on these users, with questions like: Are you also sitting on Habré? Also read this article on Habré? etc. As a rule (especially when working with small local forums), many people are curious how they were calculated, and they happily click on this kind of advertising.
It would be even more elegant to do with Habr: write a few suitable articles on different programming languages and / or vebden areas in order to help HR staff to advertise to the most targeted users (designers / rubists / pythonists) or sell some specific services and products in the future. . Thus, setting the tone of the article in the title and brief description, you can collect a fairly narrow target audience for the desired interests.
In fact, this "feature" allows you to pour mass advertising on resource users, but not at a price of 600 rubles per 1000 impressions (as Habr suggests), but at a price of 5-10 rubles per 1000 impressions, indicating all the necessary sex-age characteristics .
But since I'm not such an asshole - the above database will not be used for any kind of advertising. And I do not intend to insert such code into further publications. I just wanted to show some skeptical users that even in advertising there are a lot of non-standard (sometimes not quite white, but still interesting) methods.
And also, I would like to suggest that the administration of the resource adopt the experience of the same dirty.ru, which reloads all the pictures into its
Habr derti repository. Firstly, the ability to insert such pixels disappears automatically, and secondly, the picture will live in the publication as long as the repository lives.
One could, of course, do check for the presence of certain characters in the link (such as vk.com/rtrg), but again, there are a lot of shortcuts-links and quirky usernames that will find options to bypass the restrictions).
I did not in any way try to get any benefit from the collection of the above database, but just wanted to show one unobvious opportunity, and suggest fixing this feature on Habré.
And suddenly you want to know about more hacks and opportunities in advertising on the Internet, I will periodically add them to
this cozy channel in the telegraph , in order not to fill up the geeky resource with an unnecessary offtopic.
PS There is no limit to my impudence, but this is the last time you see a link to this channel in my publication:
