Microsoft has released the second service pack for Windows 7

Microsoft still announced the release of the subject, but asks users not to call it that. :) The second update package is called rollup update or simply “update rollup”, which it is in essence. The update kit is designed for users of Windows 7 SP1 and is not required, it will also not be distributed through the Windows Update Update Center. The update package received the identifier KB3125574 ( Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 ).

The main goal pursued by Microsoft with the release of this service pack is to help organizations that are still using Windows 7 to quickly get the installed OS with the latest updates, since the cumulative package itself can be integrated into the offline distributions of Windows 7. Microsoft also changed the format of the publication of the service pack, now instead of the standalone distribution, it will be distributed using the already quite forgotten mechanism Microsoft Update Catalog, which can only be accessed via the web Internet Explorer browser.

To install the update package on Windows 7, the user must have SP1 installed, as well as the KB3020369 update ( April 2015 ). The package includes all security and other updates for Windows 7, which were released from the beginning of the release of SP1 until April 2016. The same update is available for users of Windows Server 2008 R2. Recall that earlier, Microsoft categorically disown the release of Service Pack 2 for Windows 7.

We’re happy to announce today that you help. Roll up package, available from download from catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=3125574 , contains the following : General distribution, up through April 2016. New update, released after April 2016.

Another noteworthy fact is that Microsoft changed the exit policy for non-security updates for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 (including Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2). If earlier they could be produced in portions several times a month, now they will go out strictly once a month and represent one whole update. Updates will still be available through the Windows Update Center.
