Short words on the Internet

We all heard the phrase that “contacts” is the wrong name for the “contact information” section. But recently I looked at it from the other side: from the point of view of the problem of translating sites from English. Why are the words sections of the menu always 1.5-2 times longer than the original?

It seems to me that there is a certain practice of abbreviation of common names. And in general, short words take root. Why Yandex uses the word "Market"? It seems to me that it is not entirely correct, but it is impossible to find a similar one.

Or the use of the word "photo" wherever possible. This is a prefix, there is no such word. But only 4 letters - and the Internet does not like long words. They are inconvenient to use in navigation. Long words simply do not fit where they need to be placed.
')
It is quite acceptable to use the name "Peter", instead of "St. Petersburg" - so shorter, this is important.

So why not reduce the long menu item "Contact Information" to the word "Contacts". Everyone understands what they mean. Everyone is used to. Almost everyone is happy.

And the trend needs to continue. And to the question of how badly to create designs in which full-fledged phrases will fit perfectly, I will answer by saying that the designs of many systems are created under the English language, and long Russian words have to fit into it.

It is the Internet that should solve this problem now.
