Recently, Facebook lured vice president of advanced technology and projects to Google Regina Dugan. As part of Facebook, Regina will lead a new group called Building 8, which will be responsible for developing experimental equipment.

“As part of Facebook’s 10-year development plans, the company is launching a new building group, 8, which will develop solutions to make the world more open. The main focus will be technology for a smooth combination of physical and digital worlds. To implement these tasks, Facebook hired Regina Dugan - a recognized leader with great experience in creating teams that create breakthroughs in product development, ”official Facebook representatives told the newspaper. Business Insider.

In turn, Dugan published an appeal on the Facebook page regarding the transition to a new division:
')
“On the one hand, I am very pleased. The Building 8 team provides an excellent opportunity to do what I love most about creating technologies based on the needs of humanity. A bold area, the decisions of which can be perceived as “magic”.

On the other hand, I'm upset to leave ATAP. As part of the development of new projects, we are faced with serious challenges and problems that could destroy other teams. On the other hand, we subscribed to this when we agreed to create ATAP. ”

Prior to joining Google from 2012 to 2014, Dugan held a similar position at Motorola, and before that she headed the Advanced Defense Research Projects Agency (DARPA), known for its innovative cybernetics developments. The latest Facebook developments in the field of augmented and virtual along with artificial intelligence clearly demonstrated the company's interest in the development of new directions that will become relevant in the near future. This year, the Oculus Rift virtual reality helmet went on sale, and recently during the Facebook F8 presentation, the company demonstrated a roadmap, in which particular attention was paid to each of these areas.
