Apple surpassed ASUS and ranked fourth in the PC market

The personal computer market has continued to fall over the past years - in the first quarter of 2016, 60.6 million copies were sold on the market, which is 11.5% less than in the same period of 2015. Nevertheless, Apple was able to sell 4.5 million PCs and overtake ASUS, which sold 4.4 million, and occupy 7.4% of the personal computer market.

The fall in PC sales surpassed analysts' expectations, which predicted a decline of 11.3%. The overall trend towards the decline in the popularity of PCs has continued over the past six years, which is unlikely to change in the short term.

"Consumer demand in the PC market is still weak, but by the end of the year, the IT companies' consumption will increase, which will provoke a growth in PC sales compared to the end of 2015," said IDC research manager Jay Chu.

Lenovo continues to occupy the first place on the PC market, even though sales fell by 8.5% to 12 million compared to 2015, the company's share increased from 19.4% to 20.1%. HP ranks second in the market with sales of 11.6 million and 19.2% of the market. Sales of Dell computers fell by 2% to 9 million - in the US market, this company ranked first for the first time since 2009. Prior to this leadership held HP.

It is noteworthy that Apple's sales are growing primarily at the expense of laptops, and not stationary computers in the corporate sector, like a number of other companies. Also in the market there is practically no demand for stationary computers - laptops are becoming increasingly popular among users.

The US market fell over the past year by 5.8% and amounted to 13.6 million copies, but this figure turned out to be one of the smallest in the world - the strengthening of the dollar contributed to the positive purchasing power of the population. The release of Windows 10 at the end of last year also had a positive effect, which still supports the interest of customers in acquiring new PCs. The general trend, even with the decline in demand in this segment, remains behind the tablets - buyers prefer to buy portable devices even to the detriment of their performance and functionality.
