Moreover, the cost of the Oculus Rift kit is $ 600, which is quite expensive for a device in a new segment. One of the most awaited decisions should be the PlayStation VR virtual reality headset, which will be released later this year. Taking into account new solutions on the market, Analytics Analytics suggests that sales of new devices will exceed more than $ 895 million in 2016.
Almost 77% of the profits from sales in this segment should come from Oculus, HTC and Sony, but by the number of devices sold, these brands will occupy only 13% of the market. Total sales will be approximately 12.8 million copies, but the vast majority of devices sold will be in the budget segment of mobile devices.

It is in the mobile sector that sales primarily depend on proper marketing, which fully compensates for an insufficient amount of ready-made content along with a relatively weak technical implementation.
Sales of devices of the highest price category, designed for PC or consoles, will be only 1.7 million. Nevertheless, smartphones should be a potential factor in the growth of sales of devices in this price segment. According to analysts from Strategy Analytics, mobile devices should potentially become a link that will attract new users to this niche and subsequently acquire virtual reality helmets for the console or PC.
“Very soon, consumers will face a huge number of virtual reality devices of various price segments - from the cheapest to the premium segment.
We expect mobile devices to take up most of the market, but PC accessories and consoles will generate 77% of revenue. At the same time, virtual reality will be able to give new impetus to the development of computer devices - they will continue to increase the screen resolution, power of graphics chips and cameras for shooting 360-degree video and photos, allowing them to dive into the surrounding atmosphere, ” says Strategy Analytics Cliff Raskind.
Strategy Analytics forecasts are also correlated with other analysts, but now no one can say exactly what proportion the virtual reality devices will take in the market, so it remains to wait for sales results at the end of the year to assess the relevance of the new technology to users.
