Samsung did not have time to transfer
Apple a fine of $ 548 million for patent infringement, as the Korean company had new problems. In late December, the iPhone maker demanded another $ 180 million from the Korean company.
According to Apple, the damage was inflicted by those five Samsung devices, which the South Korean company was selling after the 2012 judicial verdict, which pleaded guilty of Samsung for violating the patent rights of the iPhone manufacturer.
This was the “last straw” and Samsung appealed to the US Supreme Court. The company said that Apple and so received compensation in an amount far greater than it deserves for its patents,
reported Reuters. "Samsung is exacerbating this case because it believes that the interpretation of the laws [in court] does not correspond to the current situation," the company said in a statement.
Samsung is accused of violating patents on the following Apple technologies: unlocking the screen by moving it with a finger (slide to unlock), data detection system, such as phone numbers in the address book when entering similar numbers, as well as automatic correction of spelling of words on smartphones.
In addition, the subject of the patent dispute became the details of the appearance of the smartphone - a rectangular shape, rounded corners, black edging and a smooth transparent surface.

On May 18, 2015, a US court reviewed the dispute between Apple and Samsung in 2012. According to the court, the above design elements should not be the subject of a patent dispute.
However, on September 17, 2015, the appellate court of the federal district in Washington made another decision.
Now Samsung, in turn, has achieved a second consideration of this issue in the Supreme Court. Korean firm demands to reduce the amount of compensation for patent infringement from $ 548 million to $ 149 million.
In 2011, Apple accused Samsung of copying the technology of manufacturing and design of the iPhone smartphone and demanded a compensation of $ 2.5 billion. In 2012, the court estimated the damage at $ 1 billion. In 2015, Samsung managed to reduce this amount to $ 930 million, and then, in May of the same year, to $ 548 million.
