Grab from Singapore has dealt
Uber and its less successful "counterparts" a new blow in the fight for the Southeast Asian market. Grab claims leadership in this region. The Singapore company has entered into a strategic agreement with
Lippo Group, one of the largest conglomerates in Indonesia.
The conglomerate is still working in real estate, but now it is making tentative steps in the high-tech business. Last year, the Lippo Group
invested $ 500 million in the
MatahariMall Indonesian ecommerce platform.
Grab will provide its platform with its logistics network,

The old name for Grab is “GrabTaxi”.
Now , in addition to the taxi service, the company offers delivery services and non-cash payments. According to the company, one of its subsidiary businesses, GrabCar, is successfully operating. GrabCar has more than 50% of the private car market in Indonesia.
“Both the Lippo Group and the Grab have been operating in Southeast Asia since they were founded. High technology can be the main driver of economic growth, so both companies are doing everything to open a “digital economy” for all Indonesians, ”said co-founder and CEO of Grab Anthony Tan. In particular, Grab, in addition to the implementation of a taxi service, uses computer technology to analyze traffic jams, making life easier for drivers.
The company is valued at more than $ 1 billion. Grab investors are
GGV Capital ,
SoftBank and
Didi Kuadi (controls more than 83% of the Chinese transportation market).
Didi also invested in the largest taxi service in India, Ola Cabs. The Chinese company
invests mainly in Asian competitors Uber. After all, the countries of Southeast Asia are of great interest for taxi services: their total population is about 600 million people, many of them live in large cities and actively use smartphones.
The Chinese taxi service is struggling to “protect” Uber from its expansion, too. Among other measures to resist - expanding the driver base and maintaining competitive prices for travel. Megamind
wrote that Didi Kuaidi will attract at least $ 1 billion in an extra round to fight Uber in China.
