This year, for the first time since its existence, the Chinese mobile vendor Xiaomi held the first press conference at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. During the conference, Xiaomi Vice President for International Market, Hugo Barr, presented the new Mi 5 smartphone - instead of the standard approach with a demonstration of the device’s features, he decided to compare it directly with the iPhone 6.
It is noteworthy that not so long ago, Xiaomi was criticized for copying the design of Apple devices, but the heads of the Chinese giant reacted negatively to the criticism. Now, during the presentation, Hugo Barr decided to compare the new devices directly.

The presentation slides compare the old Note with the iPhone 6 Plus and Mi 5 with the iPhone 6s. In addition to comparing the thickness of devices against the background of the iPhone 6 Plus with a camera protruding above the back panel, and a little more weight in the case of the iPhone 6s.

But Barra didn’t stop there - the next slides show a comparison of the camera stabilization technology and again not in favor of the iPhone 6 Plus. In the case of the occupied area of the screen on the front panel, the device was compared not only with the iPhone, but also with the Samsung Galaxy - of course, Mi5 won again by this indicator.

This approach to the presentations is partly expected for a company that aspires to take first place in the world in the number of smartphones sold. But if other manufacturers try to make comparisons with competitors only as one of the additional advertising tools, then Xiaomi confronts the devices head-on just before a multi-thousand audience.
An aggressive comparison with competitors is unlikely to create a positive image of the company in the eyes of a highly specialized audience of journalists and specialists. But the mass consumer, on the contrary, may be caught up in this, and
sales of such brands as Xiaomi and Huawei can only partly prove this.
