Adblock Plus talked about monetization through whitelisting ads

The growing popularity of ad blockers is due to the misunderstanding of the majority of advertisers on how to advertise their projects. Companies such as Google and Yahoo have repeatedly criticized the developers of ad blockers. As a result, one can observe the dominance of advertisements that make it impossible to browse sites.

But now the popular ad blockers began to skip the "right" advertisements - representatives of Adblock told about this method of monetization.

In Adblock Plus, the so-called “Acceptable Ads” appeared - this type of advertising is active by default for all users, but you can turn it off yourself in the settings. Most users do not. Until recently, representatives of Adblock Plus tried not to extend this type of monetization. Therefore, users and specialists had to guess about the cost of placing in the "white list". Now the service representatives officially told about the monetization of Adblock Plus.

Advertisers can get into the “white list” only after careful selection by moderators, and the main income comes from large sites that pay for displaying banners. Such large sites include projects with the ability to display more than 10 million advertisements. For comparison, if 5% of site users use Adblock Plus, and this is a standard market figure, then such a site should have a total of more than 200 million ad impressions per month for all users to get closer to the required 10 million ad impressions from “white” list ". Naturally, the ad blocker does not take into account the traffic of those users who do not use Adblock Plus.

As part of the evaluation of ad revenue from the “white list”, Adblock Plus management lays down all the costs of maintaining the list itself — adding new sources, discussing potential payments with customers, and many other factors. As a result, payments to a specific site that generates more than 10 million ad views from the “white list” of Adblock Plus are calculated individually. Representatives of Adblock Plus operate with improved user experience due to the placement of only high-quality advertising, but this is unlikely to be a logical justification for reducing the cost of advertising for site owners.

Representatives of Adblock Plus say that they can not disclose detailed information about transactions due to the current non-disclosure agreements (NDA). But in the absence of an NDA from sites or advertisers, Adblock Plus will publish details on existing market transactions.
