Today, Wi-Fi network users from Maxima Telecom of the Moscow Metro have begun
to notice problems with access when using ad blockers - a dashboard with a proposal to turn off the blocker or to pay for a paid subscription is simply displayed for them.
“It seems you are using an ad blocker! Please use blocking off or use “Like at home” service for only 50 rub. per month (when paying by credit card) ", - indicated on the pop-up window, which is impossible to close.
')
Naturally, this decision caused a lot of negative feedback from users of the free Wi-Fi network, who criticized the Maxim telecom approach to imposing their own services.
"Subscribers who use ad blockers - this can be either a standalone application or browser built-in functionality - when connected to the network, a message will pop up asking to turn off the ad blocker, change the browser, or connect a premium package that disables advertising on the Wi network -Fi in the metro and the need for authorization. Now we are testing such a system, and it will appear in the near future, ” said Grabovsky to the Moscow City News Agency.
In the comments to the Vedomosti edition, this information was confirmed by Ilya Grabovsky, who also commented on the erroneous demonstration of this stub to ordinary users.
"By the time of the full launch of this functionality, everything will be set up in such a way that the erroneous decisions will be practically excluded," says Grabovsky.
In the opinion of Ilya Grabovsky, Maxima Telecom thus does not impose a paid subscription service, as it provides the option to disable the ad blocker to continue free use of the Wi-Fi network.
Everyone can evaluate this decision in their own way, but Maxima Telecom has been repeatedly criticized by users for its harsh knowledge of its services. And in December 2015, the company
restricted access to Wi-Fi
to users of UC Browser due to the integrated pop-up blocker. According to Ilya Grabovsky, then the restriction was due to "the impact on the authorization system." If we take into account that initially the Wi-Fi authorization system in the Moscow Metro was able to get around using special add-ons for iOS and Android, then after such an active ban on the use of any ad blockers, such solutions will appear much more.
