Today, Cisco
announced a takeover
deal for Jasper Technologies, a developer of the Internet of Thing (IoT) platform platform, for $ 1.4 billion. Thanks to a takeover with Jasper, Cisco will gain an understanding of the fast growing
Internet of Things (IoT) market. Within the framework of IoT, it is possible to create systems of interconnected devices - from automated equipment in the workshop to connected to a common network of wind turbines or thermostats. In fact, the field of application of devices from this area is limited only by imagination and expediency of use.
Jasper provides a convenient platform for the creation of such devices and the subsequent connection, as well as distribution in the market. In fact, such systems generate a huge amount of real-time data, which cloud services are ideal for processing. In this case, customers can dynamically scale the used power.

Therefore, Cisco has recognized the prospects for Jasper absorption and subsequent development in the IoT market. Only in the corporate market, Jasper has more than 3,500 customers and 27 service providers in 100 countries. Among the customers of Japserp there are such giants as Ford, GM, Heineken, Boston Scientific and a number of others.
"Jasper and Cisco have the same vision to accelerate the development of IoT in the market," said Rob Salvano, vice president of business development for Cisco.
“We are still at the initial stage of the IoT revolution, which I compare with the distribution of electricity in the late 19th century. Then it caused a new period of innovation, and now the IoT market will similarly lead to the emergence of a new type of applications, some of which we can already see on the example of solutions for drones and autopilot machines, ”said Jasper councilor Gaurav Garg.
As the main growth markets for IoT in the Jasper takeover, the auto industry, industrial automation and security in the coming years remain. At the expense of new markets for Cisco, new opportunities for obtaining additional profit are likewise opening up.
“The battle among IoT comes down to creating a network of sensors, stacks and platforms. But all this will require a platform and Cisco has taken a very smart step, ”said Ray Wang, founder of Constellation Research, with his opinion on TechCrunch.
Indeed, if Cisco can create an advanced platform for IoT, even such large giants as Tesla and others can prefer it without developing their own solution that would slow down the integration of new functions.
