USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev and State Duma Deputy Alexander Lebedev published an open letter to the head of Microsoft, Bill Gates.
Gorbachev and Lebedev urge to withdraw the claims that Microsoft makes against Alexander Ponosov, the school principal, who bought computers with unlicensed software. They draw attention to the fact that the accused was not aware of the fact that computers installed Windows OC without a corresponding license, and the Russian Criminal Code allows punishing even those who unknowingly use unlicensed software.
Bill Gates is asked to consider this “mitigating circumstance” and withdraw the lawsuit.
