Around the world, researchers surveyed 22,500 people from 20 countries. Moreover, all respondents use broadband Internet access and watch TV or video at least once a week. In Russia, 1,000 respondents aged from 16 to 59 and 500 in the age group from 60 to 65 were surveyed.

Mobile devices as a means to watch videos are gaining popularity mainly due to short videos and young people, analysts explain Ericsson. Numerous video streaming services contributed to this trend.

On mobile devices, browsing is mostly user-generated content, and on large screens (for obvious reasons), users watch mostly content that is broadcast on a TV program, the researchers confirm.

In Russia, terrestrial television is still the most popular. 70% of respondents watch it at least once a day, and only 17% are ready to completely abandon this pleasure.

The most important obstacle to the growth of content consumption, users call advertising breaks. This was said by 55% of respondents. 38% of respondents do not mind paying for the lack of advertising.

31% of respondents believe that the increase in consumption of video content is hampered by its high cost. At the same time, 36% of users consider it normal to download pirated content. At the same time, 18% of respondents are willing to additionally pay for guaranteed quality of broadcast content on mobile devices.

The number of users who watch TV and video content on a tablet and smartphone is growing, Telecom Daily CEO Denis Kuskov agrees. According to him, the share of such viewers is about 40%. He adds that people often watch videos on a tablet or smartphone, even at home with other screens available — for example, in bed.

31% of Russian users at least once a week use the opportunity to move between devices - they start watching videos on one device, and continue on another, write “Vedomosti” referring to the research results.
