Qualcomm, which specializes in the development and research of wireless communications and SoC, together with the authorities of the Chinese province of Guizhou, establishes a joint venture to develop server chips.
The Celestial Economy is currently experiencing certain difficulties, but the country's government is making efforts to develop the microelectronics industry, trying to turn Guizhou Province into a center for the development of IT technologies and cloud computing. In the framework of the new project will be organized research in the production of server chips. Initially, the company will provide its existing chip production technologies, but it is very likely that the creation of unique chips destined for the Chinese market will be established in the future.
Initially, investment in a new venture is $ 280 million (or 1.85 billion yuan). Qualcomm’s share in the project is 45%, and the majority - 55% - is owned by the authorities of Guizhou province.
Guizhou Province is located in southwestern China, with a population of about 35 million. Despite the fact that Chinese enterprises are engaged in the assembly of electronic devices, China has not developed the development of microcircuits, which are designed to ensure the operation of technology - they are usually produced in other countries. Intel is the chip leader. Therefore, this project is particularly relevant for China and will contribute to the development of this sector of the economy of China.
