The revolution in online education: Khan Academy seeks to patent training using split testing
From the documentation of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, it follows that Khan Academy (Khan Academy) patents systems and methods for teaching videos using AB testing. Khan Academy is a non-profit organization created by Salman Khan and MIT alumni in 2008. The academy exists due to donations, the lion's share of which comes from the funds of Billy and Melinda Gates, as well as from the well-known “corporation of goodness” Google. The mission of the Khan Academy is to “provide high-quality education for everyone, everywhere.”
From the patent application it follows: “Systems and methods that are proposed for comparing different videos on the same subject matter. Two different versions of the instructional video can be compared using comparative split tests. From the video can go a list of questions regarding the subject of video training material. Users can view one video and answer questions. User response data can be collected and used to determine which video more effectively conveys information. ” ')
Now, the US Patent and Trademark Office must decide whether to take into account the fact that testing and learning management were already conducted more than 40 years ago using the PLATO system to measure the effectiveness of various teaching methods. The Khan Academy itself claims that these patents will be used for the benefit of humanity.
