Facebook is testing new themed news feeds (and not only)

Facebook has begun testing a long-awaited innovation for a mobile application that aims to replace the usual news feed. This is the next logical step in the process, which began in October, when the service began to show news to some users, selected in accordance with certain interests.

The new mobile design is based on how the Paper application works - the application automatically sorts posts from people and from pages that the user likes, placing them in other sections (which, perhaps, can be customized) or news feeds. The traditional news feed remains, only now various thematic ones are added to it, for example, under the names “Style”, “Travels” and “News” and much more.

“People told us that they want to have new opportunities to view more stories on topics of interest to users and discuss them on,” says a Facebook representative. “Therefore, we are testing news feeds that were created so that users can view various stories from pages with a specific theme.”

In addition to thematic news feeds, Facebook is also testing new features of the Marketplace feature, which the company has been working on for several months. The function called Shopping was tested as early as October of this year, however, in order to buy goods, it was necessary to go further than the main section of the application. Now the new feature has become more accessible, as can be seen in the screenshots made by Andrew Watts.

In the new tests, the Marketplace icon replaced the Facebook Messenger icon located at the bottom of the iOS app page, and Messenger itself will be located above - close to the search bar (approximately the same as this icon in Android apps). By clicking on the new icon, the user navigates to a separate page where you can view and buy various products you like.

Facebook representatives confirmed this information, but noted that currently the function is available only to a small number of people in the United States. On the timing of the emergence of "public" thematic news feeds are not reported.
