Research of analytical agency SimilarWeb in 2015 showed that social networks generate 5.8% of site transitions in the world. Similar data in Russia. We found out which Russian social networks are more willing to share traffic and whether there is a regional dependence.

Who gives more traffic


Vkontakte and Odnoklassniki are popular social networks in Russia.

Vkontakte leads with a big advantage in the number of clicks to sites. In second place is Facebook. Classmates only on the third, although the size of the audience cherish Facebook. The popularity of OK could be higher, but the transitions from the social network go through a page-layer warning the user to leave the site.
Twitter generates 3.8% of conversions - 4th place, blog service liveinternet.ru on 5th place. Livejournal with a share of 1.1% did not make it to the top 5 social networks. Google + ranks 7th - 0.4% of traffic. MyMir - 0.2%. Other social networks generate less than 0.2% clicks.

Vkontakte is the unequivocal leader in the tracked regions. The most active follow the links from Kazan and from home for VK region of St. Petersburg. Odnoklassniki in St. Petersburg and the capital of the minimum popularity.
Most Facebook users in Moscow. Twitter is used in the capital. In other regions, its popularity as a source of traffic is less than 5%. Classmates are popular among residents of Barnaul, Orenburg and Kemerovo - 40.4, 32.2 and 32.2%.

IPad owners use Facebook. There are few of them in Odnoklassniki. Even less OK users from the iPhone (or they do not follow the links).
Users of the Safari browser installed on Apple devices also prefer Vkontakte and Facebook. Apple product owners do not use Odnoklassniki.

The share of Odnoklassniki is negligible on mobile devices - 1.7%! Let's put forward a couple of hypotheses.
1. Users OK prefer mobile version of the site application. When authorizing, the site intrusively offers to install it.
2. Odnoklassniki audience does not feel the need for constant communication, “here and now”, preferring to go online from work and in the evening at home. In both cases, with dekstop devices. In favor of this version speak TNS data about the audience OK:
users under 25 are few - 15%;
over 55 years old - 22%;
35-54 years - 39%;
25-34 - 23.8%.
