Apple announced the financial results of the third quarter of fiscal 2008, which lasted from April to June.
During this period, the company managed to collect revenue of $ 7.46 billion, and its profit was $ 1.07 billion. Last year, these figures were $ 5.41 billion, $ 818 million.
Computer business brought Apple 48% of total revenue. During the past quarter, Apple sold 943 thousand Mac desktops and 1.553 million laptops - 49 and 37% more, respectively, than in the same period last year. Compared with the previous quarter - the first three months of the calendar year - the growth in sales of laptops and desktop computers was 8% and 10%.
The total number of computers sold in Q3-2008 was 2,496 million Macs - which, according to Steve Jobs, is a record figure.
This number is more than in Christmas Q1-2008 = 2.319 million Macs (see:
“Apple's Quarterly Business in Figures Q1-2008” )
IPod sales for the year grew by 12% in pieces and 7% in monetary terms, and a total of 11,011 million players were sold. The number of iPhones sold in three months was 0.717 million.
"We are proud to announce that the past three months have become a record June quarter in Apple's history in terms of revenue and profit," said company head Steve Jobs. “We set a new Mac sales record, the iPhone 3G is also really good, and we are finishing work on several more products to be released in the coming months.”

Apple ReportsBut unfortunately, Apple shareholders were expecting something else and after the announcement of the financial results
, Apple shares fell by almost 10% . Last week, Apple shares were worth almost $ 175 apiece, and on Monday after the announcement of the results of the third quarter they immediately fell to $ 161, and on Tuesday they continued to fall, reaching $ 150 per share :(
Of course, Apple’s performance is several times lower than Microsoft’s for the past quarter (see:
“Microsoft’s quarterly profit grew by 48%” ) - revenue of $ 15.84 billion and operating profit of $ 5.68 billion.
But still, the reaction of Apple shareholders is not clear to me :(
