New Software - Large electronic dictionary of the Ukrainian language

Ukrainian programmer Andrei Rysin , who since 2004 has been working for SAS, an American company engaged in software development in the field of business intelligence, in the 12-millionth online GitHub online community for developers from around the world has laid out the Big Electronic Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language (BESUYA ).

Now everyone who creates websites with a Ukrainian interface or programs that are somehow related to the Ukrainian language will be able to use the software for free, which allows to check the grammar and spelling of the text in the Ukrainian language.

This software is available in open access for the introduction of such a dictionary in your own Internet resource. Moreover, anyone can participate in the improvement of this dictionary, offering their edits and discussing them on the forum. What you need to do this: start using a dictionary, ask your questions and discuss problems , or write your constructive suggestions to an e-mail.

According to the author of the development, the purpose of creating this dictionary was to create software that supports the Ukrainian language, analyzes texts or checks the grammar, style and spelling of data in the Ukrainian language.

This project was created primarily for technical linguists , programmers, philologists, and all whose work is in one way or another connected with the Ukrainian language. The dictionary currently has about 197,000 words, of which approximately 3.4 million word forms are generated, each of which in turn has its own set of tags (part of speech, morphological signs, etc.) For comparison: the online spelling dictionary of the Ukrainian language slovnyk .ua has over 260,000 words + word forms.

But since the development of the Ukrainian programmer is a publicly open and independent project, and anyone can participate in its improvement, as the Wikipedia model shows, it can be assumed that soon it will become the main online spelling dictionary of the Ukrainian language, despite the fact that BESUA is not an academic dictionary and no academies and institutes have worked on it. According to GitHub , a lot of experts in the field of linguistics worked on the dictionary.

At the moment, the dictionary is already used in the hunspell spelling project in Firefox browser and Libreoffice.org office software, and you can also use it to check grammar in the LanguageTool program. Plans to use pymorphy2 , Elastic Search and Solar .
