Twitter plans to make money on users without an account

On Thursday, Twitter said that online ads will be displayed to non-logged in users. This audience consists of approximately 500 million people who visit Twitter on a monthly basis, but never have an account on this network. It will look like this: when you see a tweet that gives you a Google search, for example, you can see ads on the page of the tweet itself or in the author’s profile. This is exactly the moment that Twitter investors have been waiting for.

For Twitter, this is a great accomplishment. Firstly, this step is important for many advertisers who believe that Twitter doesn’t have enough registered users - especially when compared with a giant like Facebook. But over the years, the company has been trying to convey that the network’s audience is much more than the 320 million people who enter it every month, and that Twitter is able to make money from users who do not have an account. And now it's time to prove it.

What profit the company can bring such a display of advertising is not entirely clear. Traditionally, advertising on Twitter was relevant - it was shown on the basis of who the person is, which posts he publishes, and which posts he reads. This is much more difficult to achieve, provided that users do not have an account, and it is much more difficult to collect such information.

Adam Bain, Twitter's Chief Operating Officer, is convinced that the new ads, which will be presented in the usual “sponsored tweet” for the network, can bring significant profits. According to him, the profit from such advertising posts can be equal to half of what the company receives from standard advertising on Twitter. The differences will be in targeting. Instead of monetizing what the user is interested in, in this case, Twitter will monetize the subject of the content being viewed.
