Samsung changed head of mobile division for the first time in six years

For the past six years, Samsung’s main mobile unit has been Xing Jong Ken. Under his leadership, the company received record profits for five quarters in a row, but this marathon ended in 2013. In this post, Xin Jong Ken will replace Ko Ton Chin, head of the R & D division: under his leadership, the company developed Samsung Pay, Tizen and the Galaxy S6 and Note 5 smartphones. Xing Jong Ken will be responsible for the long-term development strategy of the corporation.

Since 2014, Samsung’s profit has fallen in competition with Chinese manufacturers of low-cost smartphones Xiaomi and Huawei . Xin Chong Keen was accused of the fact that Samsung did not produce enough Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones with a curved display, which became much more popular than the company had expected.

Xin Jong Kenu was replaced by Ko Ton Chin, an expert on security platforms and payment systems. He was in charge of the R & D division of the corporation. Under his leadership, a security service was developed for storing personal and corporate data on one Samsung Knox device, Samsung Pay system for making purchases with a smartphone, and Tizen operating system. Ko Ton Chin is also responsible for the latest flagships of the company - Galaxy S6 and Note 5.

Analyst HMC Investment Securities Co. Greg Roh commented to Bloomberg that the new leader will try to improve the company's software capabilities, and Professor Chang Xi-jin reassured Reuters that there won't be any special changes - the company will continue to concentrate on hardware.

Samsung usually introduces new smartphones at the beginning of the year. The world is awaiting the appearance of the Samsung Galaxy S7. Each new smartphone from this line usually costs $ 700. If a company wants to compete with Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi Mi 4 for $ 320 and Xiaomi Mi Note for $ 370, then it will have to think about lowering prices.
