Venture market in Russia does not exist?

This morning, the founder of Allok’s company, Mikhail Denisov, published his thoughts on coltracking in the west and in the open spaces of Russia. His findings can not help but think about the situation with venture capital and investing in domestic projects in the field of coltreking - to be more precise, the absence of any funding. In spite of the fact that there have been companies on the market for a long time that were trying to seek financing, no substantial capital was allocated for their development.

In contrast, overseas projects in this area allocate tens of millions of dollars. For example, DialogTech (formerly IfbyPhone) received about $ 80 million investment, Invoca - more than $ 30 million, a little less was allocated for the development of Convirza (once LogMyCalls).

And what about us, you ask? And we do not have a venture capital market as such, no business angels or exit companies. There are loans and grants, as well as investments at the expense of individual enthusiasts. For example, investments in Alloca's domestic coltreking. The analyst stopped at 900 thousand rubles two years ago, and then the project was deleted from the VentureClub list, explaining that it was not the interest of investors.

However, Mikhail himself is inclined to think that this is not the reason, but because there are no investors themselves - they are absent as a class in the market of modern domestic startups. And therefore the development of projects is carried out on their own or credit money, as well as through the moral and volitional qualities of the founders. But the development of a start-up “on its own money” in today's reality is more of a hobby than a business.

The author of the Bankrupt.Pro project Dmitry Rozhdestvensky agrees with Mikhail Denisov’s thoughts, but he believes that small funds can be found under personal guarantees and on the basis of personal connections. According to Dmitry, it is foolish to start a business with the thought that someone from investors will give an impressive amount of money for “just like that.”

However, with the opinion of Michael, not everyone is ready to agree. For example, Alytics development director Alexander Egorov thinks otherwise. In his opinion, almost all domestic startups are designed for the domestic market. The investment climate will immediately begin to improve as soon as the number of global projects increases.
