Salesforce turned its attention to the “Internet of Things”. Will not seem to anyone

No matter how strange it may be, but until some time one of the top three cloud service providers in the world looked at a lot of things in the world of big data through their fingers and did not try to get into it. All of these smart watches, bracelets, coffee makers and refrigerators with the Internet, remained on the outskirts of the Salesforce Empire.

Ask why is strange? Yes, because the company Salesforce today is one of the main players in the cloud computing market and the disregard for the generally accepted trend that directly affects the company's business is at least fraught with the loss of a part of the market and, as a consequence, a reduction in revenue.

In mid-September, the company made two large announcements. The cloud CRM provider announced plans to launch the Internet of Things (IoT) cloud platform for smart devices and officially added it to its cloud analytic service Wave Analytics Cloud, released last year for the benefit of government organizations.

The announcement was made at the annual Dreamforce conference. The company already possesses the powerful “Thunder” platform for analyzing “big data”, which will fit the new symbiotic project in the best way possible. Thunder is a massively scalable event processing platform capable of analyzing and interpreting billions of base data points from all types of devices and data streams in real time. The new IoT cloud platform will become available for both large and small companies, giving them equally effective opportunities to work with “big data”, which are products of the life of Internet of Things devices. Thus, any company will be able to come to the IoT market without deploying its own infrastructure !!! From this point on, Salesforce is ready to become a “smart city” solution provider, entering into direct competition with companies such as IBM and Cisco.

During the conference, Salesforce IoT Cloud IT Director Adam Bosworth spoke about the birth of a platform, the idea of which was born from the needs of consumers in a more sensitive service setting, while users agree in exchange to provide personal data read from their personal smart devices. The practice of Amazon was cited as an example of such an intellectual proposition. Detection of damage to goods and the immediate notification of customers that the replacement is already on the way for Amazon is not a laboratory experiment, but an implemented function. Another example is Google with its advertising system making offers based on location, search history and data from Nest Labs home automation systems.

With the “Internet of Things”, Salesforce connects the need for a cloud that will not only be able to capture and store extensive bursts of diverse data, but at the same time analyze “big data” and react to it in real time.

As I see it, this task gives some adventure and is more like an “engineering feat”, but apparently the company is trying to take on the burden of such hard research and development. Now they have an enviable set of various solutions, one way or another connected with their new beginnings, so that the implementation of the idea, although it seems difficult, is unlikely to become too heavy for the company.

According to Adam Bosworth, the Salesforce IoT Cloud will be available at the primary stage at the beginning of the second half of 2016.

Now let's see the demo ...
