Warner and Universal companies failed to get compensation for digital piracy from Vkontakte

The well-known companies Warner and Universal, which are among the most active fighters against digital piracy in the world, could not get monetary compensation from Vkontakte. As part of the lawsuit, both companies demanded cash compensation of 50 million rubles from the social network, Kommersant writes . At the same time, the court still obliged the social network to make it impossible for users to re-download deleted songs using software methods.

“We are pleased with the court decision. The court refused to satisfy the main claims of the plaintiffs. We consider this a victory not only for the VC, but also for the Russian Internet industry as a whole. We maintain our policy of dialogue with music rightholders and are confident that in the foreseeable future we will be able to develop a successful music business for rightholders in the foreseeable future, while providing high-quality music service to VC users. As for the system that prohibits the reloading of deleted tracks, the VC team has long developed and introduced a digital fingerprint system to the site, which completely eliminates the reloading of remote audio recordings into a social network. The system is actively used, and in any case we continue to work on improving it, ”said Boris Dobrodeev, general director of VKontakte.

With another rightholder, Sony Vkontakte managed to conclude a settlement agreement. In July, the social networking application was removed from Google Play, the reason for which was the complaint of one of the largest copyright holders - Universal Music, Sony Music or Warner Music / EMI.
