YouTube gets paid for viewing bots

Four European scientific institutions published a study in which they said that advertisers are charged money for viewing ads on YouTube, even if robots are watching videos.

The experiment involved researchers from the Carlos III University of Madrid, the Imdea project, NEC Labs Europe and the Polytechnic University of Turin.

Researchers downloaded videos, bought ads for display, watched videos from bots and tracked how Google processed fake views.

Two videos were viewed by bots a hundred and fifty times, the view counter identified twenty-five of them as real, but billed for ninety-one views.

Google will contact researchers and discuss the results of the experiment . A company spokesman stressed that Google is serious about traffic accounting.

In 2014, a study by the US National Association of Advertisers showed that a quarter of the videos on the Internet were watched by bots, and that in 2015 advertisers would lose more than six billion dollars in fake views. In July 2015, it became known that mobile application developers earned $ 857 million over the year from advertising that users did not see.
