The Japanese have come up with a new way to destroy buildings - from the bottom up

Construction corporation Kajima has developed an original way to demolish old buildings, in which the building is not destroyed by a directional explosion, followed by dismantling giant rubble, does not disassemble from above into separate panels and walls using cranes and does not even break in the old way with the help of a globe.

Instead of all this, the Japanese came up with how to carefully disassemble the skyscraper from the bottom up.

First, workers remove part of the supporting columns of the first floor, replacing them with powerful jacks. The whole building relies on these metal columns, while the builders with the help of small excavators and other simple equipment break down the walls of the first floor, dismantle the floor and take the debris away.

Here’s what this unusual method of skyscraper demolition looks like in practice:

As the first floor disappears, the jacks slowly lower the tower down. Moreover, it controls all the folding columns of the computer, which ensures a uniform “landing” of the building without the slightest distortions from which it could collapse. This continues until the whole house disappears.

The Japanese informally called this method daruma-otoshi (daruma-otoshi). In honor of the old game, in which a person must click out one by one “checkers” that make up the darum doll, so that the whole “structure” does not collapse.

Engineers point out that daruma-otoshi is a safer method of demolishing high-rises than previous traditional methods. In addition, it produces much less noise and dust (since all work is carried out at ground level). Moreover, this method of demolition speeds up work by 20%, and the materials obtained during the destruction of a building are easier to sort and dispose of.

Currently, Kajima demolishes two buildings in Tokyo using the daruma-otoshi method: one is 75 meters high and 20 floors high, and the second is 65 and 17, respectively.
