
Now social networks and instant messengers have already traversed the usual resources and Internet search engines. Thus, mobile Internet users most actively communicate in social networks, instant messengers, spending less time visiting other resources or searching for information on the Web, Vedomosti writes. According to MTS, in the total volume of mobile operator traffic in the first half of 2015, the share of social networks and instant messengers was 23%, instead of 20% a year earlier. At the same time, browsing other web pages and searching accounted for about 17% of traffic versus 20% for the same period of 2014. Thus, for the first time social networks and instant messengers are ahead of the search and the usual Internet resources in terms of mobile traffic.
The total amount of data traffic in the MTS mobile network in January-June 2015 is 407.7 billion Mb. This is 68.4% higher than in the same period of 2014. Interestingly, last year all the mobile Internet traffic in runet increased by 89% compared with 2013. If to compare with 2009, the mobile traffic in the Russian Federation grew 52 times.
The most popular social networks among MTS subscribers are Vkontakte and Facebook. The most popular instant messengers are WhatsApp and Viber. On-line video and music accounted for about 36% of traffic in the first half of the year, while a year earlier this figure was only 32%. Interestingly, the attendance of torrent resources is declining as users switch to online content.

According to TMT Consulting, in the second quarter of 2015, MegaFon had the largest share of mobile traffic in Russia, which is 41%. As for the MTS, here - 33% of all mobile traffic, and VimpelCom - 22%. The most popular applications in July among the users of the mobile Internet in the Russian Federation were Vkontakte and YouTube. In third place - Google search engine, on the fourth and fifth - WhatsApp and Viber messengers.
