Facebook will sponsor the Novosibirsk Programming Olympiad
Facebook will be the general sponsor of the XVI open All-Siberian Programming Olympiad named after I. Pottosin, which has been held at Novosibirsk State University (NSU) since 2000. An online tour of the Pottosin Olympiad will be held on October 4, 2015, a full-time tour from November 7 to 9.
The I.Pottosin Olympiad is a step in preparing teams for the most popular undergraduate programming championship in the world ACM-ICPC (Association for Computing Machinery - International Collegiate Programming Contest). In the full-time round of the Olympiad, the most powerful teams from Russia and neighboring countries gather, of which 50% are from Siberia and the Far East.
The first qualifying online tour is held in absentia by the traditional rules of the championship ACM-ICPC. In the second round, experts are identified with the level of systems analyst and designer of complex projects. Participants come from 30 regions of the country and six CIS countries.
Facebook decided to become the general sponsor as a result of the development of cooperation with the Pottosin Olympiad in 2014. Then Facebook employee Oven Yamauchi spoke at the event with a lecture “HHVM: Fast PHP”. The specialist has worked for Mark Zuckerberg for five years, specializing in iOS applications.
