Barclays Bank became the first British bank to accept Bitcoins

Bitcoin cryptocurrency is becoming more common. It is accepted as payment by some taxi companies, pizzerias, clothing stores, not to mention freelancers. Now one of the largest banks in the UK, Barclays, has begun to accept bitcoins, Kommersant reports . True, so far only as donations to charities.

Before taking such a step, Barclays studied cryptocurrency and the peculiarities of the entire system in "laboratory conditions" for quite a long time. In particular, the bank worked with startups that are related to cryptocurrency. Now Barclays offers its customers to transfer donations to charitable organizations in bitcoins. But at the same time, representatives of the bank have already said that the cryptocurrency "can change the financial services system."

In addition to Barclays, such major banks as UBS, BNP Paribas, Societe Generale, Citibank, Goldman Sachs, Standard Chartered and Banco Santander were interested in the principles of the Bitcoin system.
