Discovery Communications and
the National Media Group will establish a joint company, Media Alliance LLC. It will broadcast Discovery channels in Russia. In addition, the new company will provide local broadcasting. The transaction will be completed in a few weeks. LLC Media Alliance is created in order to comply with the new law “On Mass Media”: Discovery will receive 20% in LLC Media Alliance, NMG - 80%.
The company will manage 11 TV channels: educational, popular science and entertainment channels based on real-life events -
Discovery Channel ,
Animal Planet ,
TLC ,
Eurosport and others. The listed channels are leaders in their segments in the Russian pay-TV market. For several years, Discovery has increased the number of local versions of channels, as well as the share of content in Russia.
"Media Alliance" will be headed by Olga Paskina. She has been running Discovery Networks business in North-Eastern Europe since last December, Interfax reports.

At the end of June, Discovery top managers headed by the company’s president, JB Perret, met with the head of Roskomnadzor, Alexander Zharov. They expressed their readiness to restructure the business in accordance with the new amendments to the law.
