The most popular device for Internet access in the UK - a smartphone

Telecom controller Ofcom conducted a survey among the British, which showed that the smartphone is the most popular Internet access device in the UK. In second place are laptops, with a share of 30%, according to Vedomosti. In a similar survey last year, laptops were in the first place, and smartphones were in the second place.

The survey concluded that the British had become a “smartphone society”. Every second resident of the country aged from 55 to 64 has a smartphone.

The release of smartphones to the first place in the list of the most popular devices for accessing the Internet creates certain problems for businesses. The problem is that users need simple, logical interfaces and more friendly websites. At the same time, new opportunities are opening up for companies. “Mobile systems are no longer to be done, but their development is not a trivial task for business. Retailers should focus more on mobile technologies, because more and more customers are contacting them via mobile devices. But, of course, can not be limited to these technologies. Many users still use laptops and desktops for more complex operations, ”says Paul Lee, an analyst at

The UK government is now trying to interact with mobile operators to provide coverage of areas with insufficient development of telecommunications infrastructure. Until 2017, telecom operators and the government will invest about £ 5 billion in the development of such infrastructure.

In the year the British spend on purchases on the web about 2,000 pounds, which exceeds the performance of other countries. On the Internet, the average user from the UK spends about two hours a day on the Internet. This is two-thirds more than a laptop user. Calls, SMS and e-mail account for about 3/4 of the total time spent working with mobile devices. The rest is games, reading and web surfing.

About a third of smartphone users surveyed by Ofcom turn on their devices within the first five minutes after the climb. Another quarter of respondents do the same in the last five minutes before going to bed.

Despite the popularity of smartphones, the most popular means of entertainment for the British is television. On average, a resident of a country spends about 3 hours and 40 minutes a day watching TV.
